Conscientisation programme on Impact of Plastics on Environment
Introduction
Conscientisation is an action or process of making others aware if political and social conditions, especially as a precursor to challenging inequalities of treatment or opportunity. The term conscientisation is derived from the Portuguese educator, Paulo Freire in his work 'Pedagogy of the oppressed'.
Plastics are apart of our daily lives. A closer understanding of the impacts of plastics will empower us to improve their toxic footprint. Plastics are very stable and therefore stay in the environment a long time after they discarded. Plastics put a big chemical burden on the environment.
Report
As part of our of B.Ed curriculum and practice we conducted a conscientisation programme in Mount Tabor Girls High School, Pathanapuram on 9th January 2018. We selected the topic 'Impact of plastics on environment' for the programme and we presented it in standard 9.
Our programme was started by an introductory session which was lead by Athira Krishnan. She distributed a brochure to the students. She call upon one student to read that. The brochure contains the harmful effects of plastics and methods to reduce plastics.

Afterthat, I presented a powerpoint about plastics and impact of plastics on environment. Then I showed a video about how to reuse the plastic bottles into useful materials.

The conclusion portion was handled by Bincy Babu. She explained a chart. It contains 10 tips to reduce plastic in our daily life.
After the entire programme, we allowed them to share their experiences. Then we collected a feedback from the students.
Conclusion
Nowadays plastics is one of the most important things in the modern life of human being. But it cannot be quickly degraded or damages the atmosphere if burnt. Plastics will adversely effect land, wildlife, marine and human. So we have to reduce the use of plastics. Reduce, reuse and recycle are the most simplest way to control plastic pollution.
